About the Role
The UCL Ear Institute is seeking a highly motivated Lecturer (Grade 8) or Associate Professor (Grade 9) in Audiological Sciences to undertake and advance audiological research and teaching. The grade of the appointment will be determined based on the level of experience and seniority of the candidate offered the post.
The post holder will be expected to deliver a programme of research that integrates with the Institute’s current research profile and advances basic and/or translational research related to audiology. The post holder will also be expected to contribute to audiology teaching and assessment at the Ear Institute, leading on specific modules, supervising research projects, and working with team members to improve quality and effectiveness of clinical theory and practical training for undergraduate and post-graduate Audiology programmes. Additionally, the post holder will provide tutorial and pastoral support for students and may deliver other teaching across UCL.
The post holder will also be expected to promote interaction between research and teaching staff at the UCL Ear Institute and clinicians at the Royal National ENT Hospital and other NHS hospitals, including via engagement with the NIHR-UCLH Biomedical Research Centre ‘Hearing Health’ Theme.
Salary: UCL Grade 8 -9, £65,698–£71,357
Duration: Permanent (Either Full time 1.0 FTE or Part-time 0.8 FTE)

About UCL Ear Institute
The UCL Ear Institute is a leading international centre for research and teaching related to understanding hearing and transforming hearing health. Our collaborative, multi-disciplinary institute has circa 75 staff working across basic and clinical sciences including genetics, cell and molecular biology, auditory neuroscience, cognitive and computational neuroscience, audiological sciences and ENT medicine. The UCL Ear Institute together with its partner, the Royal National Ear, Nose and Throat Hospital (RN ENT), also hosts a National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) Biomedical Research Centre (BRC) Theme in ‘Hearing Health’. A RAND analysis of highly-cited publications ranked UCL No.1 in England for both ‘Deafness and Hearing’ and for ‘Audiology and Speech & Language Pathology’.
Training the next generation of auditory scientists is a priority at the UCL Ear Institute. The Institute hosts three-and four-year PhD programmes in a wide range of basic and clinical disciplines, including genetics, cell and molecular biology, auditory neuroscience and human auditory function. It also offers a range of Master’s-level programmes in audiology and audiovestibular research, as well as short courses for students and health-care professionals. An undergraduate BSc in Audiology was launched in 2022/23. Audiology teaching is delivered in close collaboration with the RN ENT Hospital.
